Return ValidationSIRAS Return Validation is a key component of SIRAS’s technology that validates a product’s true eligibility for return. With Return Validation, SIRAS creates an efficient process for accepting valid returns and preventing unwarranted returns and fraud. When a product return is attempted, the retail employee scans the product UPC and the serial number. The retailer’s POS system does a real-time query to the SIRAS national database, which checks the original sale record of that item. Using the sale date and pre-programmed warranty and return guidelines for that retailer and that product, SIRAS then either authorizes the POS system to complete the return transaction (for valid returns) or stops the return transaction for ineligible returns. In the case of eligible returns, the process is seamless and in real-time. There is no slow down to a valid return transaction. But if the SIRAS Return Validation query reveals that the product does not meet the retailer’s guidelines for return, SIRAS locks the system and provides information so the retail employee can easily show the customer why the item is ineligible for store return. The process is totally systematized by SIRAS and requires little training for the retail employees. As an option for the retailer, the SIRAS program can also allow for and track manager overrides to the system. SIRAS Return Validation halts cross-retailer returns, stolen product returns and returns of products outside of the retailer’s return policy. The system can also be programmed to display a list of accessories that should accompany the product being returned. And if the product needs repair, the system can also provide a list of local and approved repair facilities, as well as confirm the product’s remaining warranty eligibility and the manufacturer’s customer service number. Clients on the SIRAS program see on average a return rate reduction of 20% - 50% with POS Electronic Registration and SIRAS Return Validation integrated in the retailer POS system.
